For more than a century, Maimonides has served Borough Park as our community's hospital. A merger with NYC Health + Hospitals — pushed through with a $2.2 billion state grant — threatens the religious accommodations, culturally competent care, and quality of medicine our families depend on. Add your name. Tell Albany and City Hall: Maimonides is not theirs to take.
We, the undersigned residents of Borough Park, Brooklyn, and supporters from across New York, oppose the proposed merger of Maimonides Medical Center into NYC Health + Hospitals.
Maimonides is not just a hospital. It is the medical home of one of the largest Orthodox Jewish communities in America — with Shabbat elevators on every floor, Yiddish-speaking clinicians, an on-site synagogue with daily minyanim, and kosher dietary standards integrated into patient care. It is where our children are born, our parents are treated, and our families come to heal in dignity.
Folding Maimonides into a sprawling municipal system — one that has never managed a hospital of this character — puts every one of those accommodations at risk. A 30-year contractual promise is not the same as community ownership. Once the merger is final, the people of Borough Park lose their seat at the table.
We are not opposed to partnership. We are opposed to being told what is good for our community without being asked. Stand with Borough Park. Stop the H+H takeover.
