Borough Park stands with Maimonides  ·  Add your name to the petition

Stop the H+H takeover of Maimonides Medical Center.

For more than a century, Maimonides has served Borough Park as our community's hospital. A merger with NYC Health + Hospitals — pushed through with a $2.2 billion state grant — threatens the religious accommodations, culturally competent care, and quality of medicine our families depend on. Add your name. Tell Albany and City Hall: Maimonides is not theirs to take.

To Governor Kathy Hochul:

We, the undersigned residents of Borough Park, Brooklyn, and supporters from across New York, oppose the proposed merger of Maimonides Medical Center into NYC Health + Hospitals.

Maimonides is not just a hospital. It is the medical home of one of the largest Orthodox Jewish communities in America — with Shabbat elevators on every floor, Yiddish-speaking clinicians, an on-site synagogue with daily minyanim, and kosher dietary standards integrated into patient care. It is where our children are born, our parents are treated, and our families come to heal in dignity.

Folding Maimonides into a sprawling municipal system — one that has never managed a hospital of this character — puts every one of those accommodations at risk. A 30-year contractual promise is not the same as community ownership. Once the merger is final, the people of Borough Park lose their seat at the table.

We are calling on our elected leaders to:

  1. Halt the merger pending full, public review by the New York State Attorney General's office.
  2. Require a binding, court-enforceable guarantee — in perpetuity, not for 30 years — of all religious and cultural accommodations currently in place at Maimonides.
  3. Establish a community oversight board, with seats reserved for Borough Park residents, that has veto power over service changes.
  4. Open the books: publish, in plain language, exactly how the $2.2 billion state grant will be spent and what happens to it if the merger fails.
  5. Guarantee no reduction in staffing, beds, or services at Maimonides for at least 15 years post-merger.

We are not opposed to partnership. We are opposed to being told what is good for our community without being asked. Stand with Borough Park. Stop the H+H takeover.

What's actually at stake

$2.2B
State grant supporting the merger
A five-year grant from New York State backs the deal — far more than was ever offered to keep Maimonides independent.
711
Beds at Maimonides Medical Center
One of the largest hospitals in Brooklyn, serving over 250,000 patients a year, the majority from our community.
30 yrs
Only 30 years of religious protections promised
The merger contract promises religious accommodations for 30 years. Our community has been here for generations — we need them in perpetuity.
